“Tackling TS” Charity Wins Big at Cherry Speedway
“Tackling TS” (Tuberous Sclerosis) Charity benefit race at Cherry Speedway was a huge success. The final numbers have not yet been tallied at press time, but officials estimate that nearly $7000.00 were raised through donations, 50/50 drawing, silent auction and lap sponsors this past Friday. A special thanks from “Tackling TS” to Rail Rokos, Jackie Miron and Goin’ Green Race Promotions for all the work that went into making this event such a great success.
Dona Marcoullier set fast time in Late Model qualifying with a lap of 14.373 while Donnie Marcoullier carried the checkers in the Ground Level Landscaping Dash for Cash followed by Dona, Brett Chalker and David Hilliker. Rail Rokos scored the first heat race win over Clay Chambers and Adam Erickson. Heat #2 victory went to Chad Wright over Steve Nieuwenhuis and Eric Spangler. In the feature race, Eric Spangler took the early lead while the rest of the field battled for position behind him. Donnie Marcoullier quickly made his way into the runner up spot and closed in on Spangler to battle for the lead. Spangler was up to the challenge and held on to lead flag to flag for the victory. On the last lap Dona Marcoullier moved Donnie to take over second place as they came to the line. Donnie would finish third followed by David Hilliker, Don Erickson, Chad Wright, Chris Brindley, Greg Gokey, Steve Nieuwenhuis and Clay Chambers.
Billy Scott set the mark to beat in Michigan Modified qualifying with a lap of 15.667. Scott Payton held off the field for the win in the Bob & Pen Scott Dash for Cash followed by Joe Rokos, Marc Kurth and Billy Scott. Kraig Visser, Brent Banning and Dan Paige all scored heat race wins while Banning and Dennis Taghon finished up front in the “B” Main to earn their starting spot in the feature. Roger Steig took the lead from pole sitter, Dan Paige as the green flag dropped and set a blistering pace for the rest of the competitors. Paige would stay glued to Steigs bumper but was unable to find the power to get around him. Roger would drive on to victory followed by Paige, Rich Gokee Jr., Jeff Cade, Joe Rokos, Scott Payton, Joey Fowler, Larry Cade, Billy Scott and Greg Town.
Dan Hersey set fast time in the Super Street Stock qualifying at 17.153 while Jimmy Billett scored the dash win over Hersey, Greg Grahek and Justin Clous. Rick Wilson finished out front in the first heat race followed by Matt Titus and Scott Barber with Zeke Chambers picking up the win in heat #2 over Billett and Hersey. In the feature race Zeke Chambers took the lead as the green flag flew with Matt Titus and Jim Billett in tow. On lap 15 of the twenty lapper, Dan Hersey moved into the runner up spot but ran out of laps to challenge Chambers as Zeke drove on to victory. Hersey finished second followed by Matt Titus, Greg Grahek, Justin Clous, Rick Wilson, Terry Humphries, Jimmy Billett, Ben King and Herb Ray Jr.
Randy Day scored the heat race win Cruiser/Bomber action followed by Ed Kler, Josh Hutchinson and Jeremy Frye. Jeff Bell took the early lead in the feature event while Randy Day was working his way through the pack. On lap 5, Day took over the lead and drove on to score the victory followed by Ed Kler, Jeremy Frye, Josh Hutchinson, 220, Jeff Bell, Booie Francisco, Nick Kler, Tom VanBrocklin and Charlie Woebbeking.
Eli Hittle Jr. carried the checkers in the 4-Cylinder Compact heat race over Jordan Erickson and Billy Wismer. In the feature race Jordan Erickson took the lead from Allen Oyer on lap #7 and drove on to score his third feature win in a row at Cherry Speedway. Oyer held on to finish second followed by Jess Chambers, Brandon Schaub, Eli Hittle Jr., Levi McMullen, Andy Nickerson III, Cody Seekamp, Billy Wismer and Aaron Prentice.
Novak Masonary sponsored the MORA Mini Outlaw Mid-Season Championships this past Friday as Paul Buckler was the first to visit victory lane in the four car dash over Doug Roush, Ryan Reckow and Jack Freeman. John Lehn carried the checkers in the first heat race followed by Doug Roush and Randy Plamondon. Andrew Brock captured the second heat race win over Drew Stander and Bud Schrader. In the Mid-Championship feature Drew Stander led the first three laps as Paul Buckler shot to the front from the back row. On lap #4, Buckler took over the point and drove on score the win over Doug Roush, Stander, Bud Schrader, Randy Plamondon, James Freeman, Rodd Sickelsteel, Floyd Roush, Jack Freeman and Justin Ward.
