David Hilliker wins the Auto Value / Bumper To Bumper "Outlaw" Late Model Feature at "The Cherry"
David Hilliker scores the win in the Auto Value / Bumper To Bumper - Soaring Eagle "Outlaw" Late Model Special. The "Flyn' Farmer" Frank Seder took the early lead from the outside pole in the held over feature event from last Friday's rain out. Hilliker got past pole sitter, Steve Zakrajsek on the opening lap and disposed of Seder on lap #5 to take over the point. Hilliker went on to set a blistering pace and score the win over Seder, Allen Markel, Chad Wright, Adam Erickson, Mike Fenske, Steve Nieuwenhuis, Brett Chalker, Steve Zakrajsek and Steve Anderson. During the post race interview with Hilliker I told him he was just 1/10 second off the track record held by Rail Rokos at 11.62 set during qualifying in 2001. David asked if he could have five laps to try and better the record. When the fans were asked if they would like to see him try, they responded with a very enthusiastic cheer. On the second lap of his run he ran a lap of 11.54 and once again the crowd erupted. Rokos' record will still stand as an official qualifying lap, but David sure put on a show for the fans.
In the prelims, Chad Wright scored the dash win over Allen Markel, Steve Nieuwenhuis and Brett Chalker. Chad Wright also carried the checkers in the first heat race followed by Markel and Nieuwenhuis. Hilliker picked up the second heat race win over Adam Erickson and Frank Seder.
