Make up Features added to the program in 4 classes this past Friday
Made for an exciting night for the fans and the racers at Cherry Speedway.
I would like to thank the Drivers, Crew Members and the Cherry Speedway Staff for all being ready when needed to move the show along and squeeze the additional 4 feature races into an already full program. Well done by all and without even coming close to curfew.
Make-up features were won by Rail Rokos in Late Models followed by Steve Nieuwenhuis, Kyle Cole, Clay Chambers and Jesse Baker. Jeff Cade captured the win in Michigan Modified action over Roger Steig, Brent Banning, Greg Town and Joe Rokos. Dan Hersey carried the checkers in the Super Street make-up feature followed by Tom Zundel, Zeke Chambers, Richard Clay and Matt Titus. Randy Day scored the Cruiser/Bomber win over Josh Hutchinson, Bill Edwards, Elroy Ozment and Tom VanBrocklin.
Jess Chambers scored the win in the first of two heat races for the 4-Cylinder compacts followed by Jordan Erickson and Joe Kelly while Tyler Wagener carried the checkers in heat #2 over Brandon Schaub and Allen Oyer. In the feature race, Brandon Schaub took the early lead while Jordan Erickson was working his way up from his sixth place starting spot. On Lap #10 Erickson took over the point and went on to capture the win followed by Tyler Wagener, Jess Chambers, Joe Kelly, Eli Hittle Jr., Cody Seekamp, Brandon Schaub, Allen Oyer, Scotty Fisher and Mark Phillips.
Jeremy Frye carried the checkers in heat #1 for the Cruiser/Bomber followed by Josh Hutchinson and Nick Kler. Heat #2 victory went to Ed Kler over Randy Day and Elroy Ozment. In the feature race, Josh Hutchinson jumped into the early lead followed closely by Nick Kler and Ed Kler. On lap #9 of the 15 lap feature, Ed Kler took over the lead and drove on to score the win followed by Hutchinson, Jeremy Frye, Bill Edwards, Elroy Ozment, Nick Kler, Randy Day, Jeff Bell, Jeff Spoor and Tom VanBrocklin.
Rick Wilson set fast time in Super Street Stock qualifying with a lap of 16.561 while Zeke Chambers scored the dash win over Joe Fisher, Tom Zundel and Dan VanHaitsma. Dave Madden carried the checkers in heat #1 followed by Greg Grahek and Richard Clay. Heat #2 victory went to Dan Hersey over Zeke Chambers and Rick Wilson. In the feature race, Dan VanHaitsma took the lead from pole sitter, Justin Clous as the green flag flew. VanHaitsma would go on to lead flag to flag for the win followed by Greg Grahek, Joe Fisher, Richard Clay, Dan Hersey, Matt Titus, Dave Madden, Herb Ray Jr., Tom Zundel and Rick Wilson.
Michigan Modified action saw Scott Payton set fast time with a lap of 15.605. Jeff Cade scored the dash for cash win followed by Joe Rokos, Bob Green and Payton. In heat race action, Arnold Hoekwater carried the checkers in the first heat over Greg Town and Wayne Taghon while Larry Cade bested the field in heat #2 followed by Brent Banning and Billy Scott. The fans were treated to 20 laps of caution free racing in the MMA feature with Brent Banning taking the lead as the green flag flew. Banning had his tail covered the entire 20 laps with Jeff Cade and Bob Green trying to find a way past the #99. Banning held them off to score his first feature win of the year at Cherry Speedway followed by Jeff Cade, Bob Green, Scot Payton, Billy Scott, Joe Rokos, Roger Steig, Larry Cade, Bob Baldwin and Greg Town.
Dona Marcoullier set the time to beat in Late Model qualifying with a lap of 14.540. Kyle Cole held off the top qualifiers to score the dash win over Steve Zakrajsek, Adam Erickson and Marcoullier. Heat #1 victory went to Greg Gokey followed by Donnie Marcoullier and Ron Ramoie. Rail Rokos carried the checkers in the second heat race over Bob Hammar and Don Erickson. I the feature race, Andy Chester took the lead as the green flag flew and set a blistering pace. As Chester closed in on lapped traffic running side by side for position, Chester spun coming out of turn four and lost several positions and eventually pulled out of the race. Don Erickson took over the point with Donnie Marcoullier glued to his tail. Erickson held off all challenges by Marcoullier to score his first win of the young season followed by Donnie Marcoullier, Dona Marcoullier, Steve Zakrajsek, Rail Rokos, Adam Erickson, Ron Ramoie, Bob Hammar, Greg Gokey and Steve Nieuwenhuis.
This coming Friday, May 30th at Cherry Speedway will feature a full show with Autograph Night and Scouts Night. All Boy and Girl Scouts in uniform will be admitted in the grandstands FREE.
